“Water by nine, bed by ten,” Coach Giles told her athletes during the team meeting the night before the big day. Both teams were excited about the state meet, because everyone had performed their personal best at the regional meet. Both teams went in wanting to capture a state trophy. The boys completed this by taking home runner-up and the girls fell short of two placings, earning 5th overall in the 3A class. Individually, sophomore Collin Trickle captured the state championship, Dillon Hackett placed 7th, Garrett Daugherty placed 14th and Anna Trahan placed 9th.
When asked, “What do you remember most about this year of cross country?” Kyle Egger responded, “Dying at Ellsworth to compete for first.”
When
asked, “Was Cross Country what you thought it would be?”
Anna Trahan responded, “I thought it was going to be a killer, but
it ended up being a blast.”
When asked what her best memory was, Trahan responded, “When we ran out at Coach Gile’s hilly homeplace on the windiest day of the year and Shelbi was dying because of the horrible wind, so she took my hand and I drug her up the hill while running.”
