October 01, 2009

The Minneapolis FFA competed in the Kansas State Fair Ag Mechanics Division on Saturday, September 11, 2009.  Tyler Hohner constructed a smoker/grill which placed 2nd out of 44 projects in the Krause Corporation Innovations Award competition.  Krause provided two judges to select the winning projects with attributes of innovation.

The 1st place project received a $300 check which was a hydraulic dump bed trailer made by a student from Rock Hills.  For second place, Tyler received a $200 check for his ideas which included a clean out tray for the fire box. Tyler placed 5th overall in the Class 100C division.  Also exhibiting was Riley Baker with a live animal trap she made.  She finished 4th in the Class100D division.  Class D division is projects costing $149 or less to build and Class C is $150 to $999.  Projects were constructed in last years' Minneapolis High School Ag classes.  Projects are judged on the Description of Features, Quality of Work, Choice of Materials, Safety Features, Variety of Skills, and the Complexity of Construction.
