The Minneapolis Jr. High Science Olympiad team traveled to Fort Hays State University to compete in the regional tournament. The team, made up of seventh and eighth grade students, competed in 22 different events covering a variety of areas in science. Students competed by taking written tests, doing lab activities, using technology, and building projects that were tested the day of the competition. The MJH Team place fourth overall as a team and medalled individually in 8 events at the tournament. The team’s efforts were rewarded with an invitation to compete at the state tournament on April 3. They will compete against 30 other 1A-6A junior high teams from across the state. “I am very proud of the teamwork and individual effort of each student,” commented Coach Linda Willoughby. “Their flexibility and willingness to work together is what enables them to succeed as a team. The returning eighth graders demonstrated great leadership with the new seventh grade members of the team which added to their success.”
